The True Meaning of Life
Joseph M. Gleason - 6/30/1998
I once believed that life was learning
great wisdom in college, all knowledge discerning
but an ocean of smarts cannot quench a heart's burning
No, happiness and life are not there.
I then believed that life was success
in corporate dealings and business quests
but promotions and cash just leave emptiness
No, happiness and life are not there.
In my quest for fulfillment I thought I had lost
until I stopped to count the cost.
No matter how high I climb a ladder that's tall,
my efforts are vain if it's on the wrong wall.
In my ongoing effort to learn to to truly live,
I learned it's not what I get, but what I choose to give --
In all I say, and in all I do,
True Life is Love, if my Love is True.
