Grew up Disciples of Christ. Embraced Jesus, converted to Zane Hodges/GES, then to Calvinist (via Sproul, S. Lewis Johnson), then to non-Hodges (via Schreiner, Piper), then to non-dispensational (via classes at DTS, esp. Dr. Pentecost). Thus, at this point, I'm only able to define my theology by what I'm not. I'm just beginning to think all this through. I teach mostly Bible and/or biblical theology here in Mexico. I basically function as a pastor in a small, newly planted church in Silao, Guanajuato. I'm driven more by biblical theological questions than by systematic ones, striving not to toss out the latter. For further clarification, I'm more or less happy with the following theologians/Bible expositors for various strengths (while also recognizing weaknesses, in no particular order, and plenty of my own weak spots, esp. lack of older guys): Ladd, Carson, Schreiner, Moo, Grudem, Bock, Pyne, Hannah, Fee, Hafemann, Kostenberger, Beale, Piper, Bridges, Stott, O'Brien, House, Packer, Lincoln, Fuller, Dunn, Garlington, Wright, Calvin, Frame, Poythress, Vos, Gaffin, Shepherd, Bahnsen, Van Til, Pratt, Ferguson, Adams, Hoekema, Ridderbos, Mathison, Gentry, DeMar, Jordan, Wilson, Leithart, Thielman, and growing. |
